Fantastic Playroom by New Young Pony Club
3 December 07
My music collection the past few years has been firmly centered in the indie-rock/indie-pop category, with forays into singer-songwriter territory and brief interludes of jazz or salsa, or whatever good shows temporarily caught my interest. This was all well and good but left me with the knotty problem of what to play when somebody requested upbeat music. I could give it a shot with Clap Your Hands or Animal Collective maybe, Belle and Sebastian’s pretty light-hearted or Pernice Brothers if you don’t listen to the lyrics. Stars and Architecture in Helsinki are both happy music as far as I’m concerned. I’m just not sure that any of those groups possess the ability to instill a desire in the listener to leave the house in order go out and party, which is just what the album above does. New Wave, New Rave, whatever it is, it picks you up off the couch and reminds you have you haven’t gone to a club in the last three years and maybe that’s not as good a thing as you thought it was.
